We hadn’t planned to test the GE 24” LED Plant Grow Light in our plant grow light comparison, but when we installed the ECRU and Roleadro full-spectrum lights, we realized they could not cover an entire 18” x 48” shelf, and more light was needed.

We decided on the GE Plant Grow Light because it is a major name brand that would be a good comparison to the other brands we had chosen. The GE light is also more widely available in brick and mortar stores for consumers more interested in shopping that way.

The GC LED plant grow lamp is normally $69.99 USD, but is also featured occasionally in a “Lightning Deal,: with prices as low as $51. It was ranked 149 on Amazon’s best seller list and has a 4.5 out of 5 review rating.

The color of the light appears warm white to the eye, but features a ratio of one red LED for every 2 white LEDs (actual ratio of red: white is 1:2.09) The lamp reports to have a Red:Blue flux ratio of 3:1, and is designed for growing seeds and greens rather than flowers and fruits.

To make space for the GE LED Plant Grow Light, we turned the ECRU and Roleadro grow lights perpendicular to the shelf, and mounted them each six inches from the ends of the shelf where they would each be directly above one of our 10×20 SuperSprouter trays. As noted in the articles about those lights, they provide good coverage for that area.

We then mounted the GE LED Plant Grow Light at the middle of the shelf, where it can cover the other two 10×20 SuperSprouter trays on the shelf. As you can see in Figure 1, hung 12” from the soil, with the benefit of reflective mylar, the lamp provides fairly good coverage for this area.

While the full price of this LED plant grow lamp may send buyers toward other less costly options, it does have some good features: most of the lamp is constructed of metal, it seems sturdily built, and it offers the option to daisy chain using a standard line voltage outlet, so extra daisy-chain cables are not necessary.
