Rainforest Station is gearing up for the holidays, and building our inventory of exotic pets. Beautifully colored corn snake hatchlings are available, and our leopard gecko babies are ready for new homes. We are expanding our variety of poison dart frogs, and currently have a couple of nice Dendrobates terribilis froglets available. We also have Madagascar giant day geckos and William’s dwarf geckos. Keep an eye out for new additions coming soon..

Rainforest Station always offers a wide variety of exotic pets, featuring the largest selection of poison dart frogs, tree frogs and terrestrial frogs you’ll find in a retail store in the Midwest. You’ll also find leopard geckos, crested geckos, gargoyle geckos, and other gecko species; bearded dragons and other lizards (currently featuring baby savannah monitors, baby blue-tongued skinks, Asian water dragons, green and red iguanas, ameivas and more ), turtles and tortoises, corn snakes and ball pythons, an assortment of tarantulas, and even some amphibians with tails: tiger salamanders, spotted salamanders, Spanish (Iberia) ribbed newts, California newts, and Axolotl.

If you’re into tarantulas, we have everything from beginner species, such as the Chilean Red Rose-Hair to advanced species such as the Sri Lanka Ornamental Tarantula.

If you are looking for any other species, please drop us a line and we’ll do our best to track it down. And, of course, we have more roaches, crickets, wax worms, fruit flies, and bean beetles than you can shake a stick at.

We also carry a full line of products from manufacturers such as, Exo Terra, Zoo Med, Zilla, Flukers, Tetra, as well as an indoor greenhouse with a wide variety of tropical plants to furnish your naturalistic terrariums and vivariums.

You can shop on-line or stop by and see us. We’re just a mile east of the I-96 interchange, at 6248 28th St. SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49546. Or, we offer free delivery of items purchased on-line to any of the shows at which we are a vendor.

Lygodactylus williamsi Common name: William’s Dwarf Gecko

We received five male and 12 female William’s Dwarf Geckos this week!

In the wild these blue-green arboreal dwarf geckos can only be found in Kimboza, a small tropical forest in Tanzania. They have been introduced into captivity quite recently due to deforestation of their natural habitat but these geckos are still rare to get. Captive breeding in Europe is increasing the number of Williams dwarf geckos available, but it still will take a while before they will be seen on the market more often. Exportation will probably stop in the near future to protect these little blue geckos. Adults can reach a total length of 2 to 4 inches (60-100 mm).

Dominant males have a beautiful blue color, females are a copper patina coloration with some dark green.Young or sub-dominant males also look like the females. The best way to determine sex is to check for hemipenal bulges and preanal pores. Males often will have a full black throat coloration while females have a lighter throat that is divided in lines. Both sexes have an orange and yellow underside which is as spectacular as their blue colors.

These rainforest dwellers should do well in one of our naturalistic vivariums.

Male Williams dwarf geckos are $79.99; female Williams dwarf geckos are $69.99; and a 1.2 trio is $199.99

Almost a week open, and we’re getting new customers every day, as well as old friends from the reptile expo circuit.

Next week we will add Repashy Superfoods crested gecko foods to our inventory. Keep an eye out for this exciting addition, which allows the pet keeper the simplicity of a single- powder food mix, or if desired, a base mix and a variety of flavored nectors to individualize it!

Please stop by: 6248 28th St. SE, in Grand Rapids. It’s about a mile east of the I- 96/28th St. interchange. We’re open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and until 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday; noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Happy Frogging,

Now where do I put it all?

We also picked up a bunch of store fixtures from the Linens N Things stores that were closing in Grand Rapids. We got some really cool wire gondolas, and some smaller slatwall gondolas with casters on the bottom.

By the end of next week, we should have stuff situated well enough to open, but it will still be a work in progress. If you are in the area, please stop by: 6248 28th St. SE, in Grand Rapids. It’s about a mile east of the I-96/28th St. interchange.
